Fingers in Front of Eyes is the debut album from Los Angeles-based artist DD (aka David Madden). It is Part I of a trilogy and the first release from his newly launched Wooden Records imprint.

The production of the trilogy began in late 2017 in the immediate aftermath of a cancer diagnosis and an ensuing thyroidectomy. The music and the production process move move through the borderlines of illness, recovery, loss, forgiveness, acceptance and bodily transformation. DD says: “The power and simplicity of techno and bass musics brought me back to my feet, reawakening, scared, exhausted, weak and forever rediscovering life, with fingers in front of eyes.” This is not a story of overcoming, but rather, one of inescapable and unknowable changes; ones co-produced through the creation of six musical movements playing out in imaginary ecosystems and dance floors. They are: “fingers in front of eyes,” “better,” “miss you,” “forever,” “wooden,” “never.” It’s become a love letter to survival and to reimagining life worlds through dance music.

An album i liked so much, i bought it twice. Beautiful synth scapes that pull the listener into deep realms of undulating sonic shimmers and canyon shadows of dub techno. There are nods in the direction of Von Oswald's Channel but the approach is completely signature to Hoavi and it arrives with confidence. I could listen to 'Cosworth' on repeat for an hour and never tire. neglectsound
